I am sure you have all heard about the famous Norwegian fjords. Being a Norwegian myself I thought it was quite scandalous that I had never visited Geiranger until now. Geiranger is a small tourist village in the western part of Norway. Since 2005, the Geirangerfjord area has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Before going to Geiranger, we decided to partner up with Grande Fjord Hotel. A beautiful 4 star family run boutique hotel with beautiful views all over the place. The first thing I noticed when walking in to spacious hotel room was the stunning fjord view in every single direction. Especially when stepping out on the balcony. This hotel is ideally situated only 100 meters from the World Heritage Geirangerfjord. Being so close to the water, of course we had to get into some water activities. Kayaking was one thing I had never tried, but always wanted to do. Geiranger Fjordservice were able to help out with this, and borrowed us this awesome kayak that felt nice and smooth. Not like those professional kayaks you see where you feel like you will fall into the water if you sneeze.
For those of you who know me well, you know I am not a big adventure seeker, and rollercoasters and and basically anything that has a lot of speed involved in not my cup of tea. However, when the hotel offered us a guided RIB safari, we just could not say no. RIB stands for Rigid Inflatable Boat, and for those of you who does not already know, they can go really fast. Luckily, our guide was very respectful and did not go too fast. He also told some very interesting stories, and we got to see some beautiful places. Can definitely recommend this to anyone.
Speaking of not being adventurous, I really got to test my limits on the very last day, Flydalsjuvet is this iconic viewpoint that has been photographed millions of times. I wanted to take my spin on it, and decided to check it out. This was about a 10 minute car ride from the hotel. Walking out on the edge is just pure terror. I looked down once, and that was enough. If I was supposed to stand there and pose for a while I could not be looking down at all. To make a long story short, I survived, and you can see the final result underneath. Do you think it was worth it?
One thing I have written about yet is one of the most important things in my life, food. Yes, I sure love my food. The breakfast was impeccable with a stunning buffet. Plus they had an omelette bar, which is my absolute favorite. The dinners were also amazing, both the fish and meat. Plus they had all the fresh fruits you could ever dream of. Right down the stairs from the restaurant was two well sized jacuzzis. As you can see on my photo below, you would definitely enjoy a nice view while relaxing in the jacuzzi.
One thing I liked a lot about the hotel was how close everything was to each other. It took us literally 30 seconds to walk from our room to the restaurant, or from our room to the jacuzzi. Also, the view from the hotel room was something I could get used to looking at every day. Am I going back to Geiranger one day? Yes. Will I be staying at the same hotel? Oh yes. This place has so much to offer during the spring and summer months, and is a must if you ever go to Norway.
