Experiencing Switzerland for the first time!

After never having been to Switzerland before, it was very exciting to be welcomed to the amazing Hotel Belvedere, in the little cozy village of Grindelwald. The 4* family-run hotel has a direct view towards the gigantic Eiger mountain. The swiss alps had always been on my bucket list, so this was something very new and exciting for me.

The scenery

Grindelwald, which is a village in the Bernese Alps, is a popular gateway for the Jungfrau Region. In the winter, skiing is by far the most popular option, whilst in the summertime hiking is very popular. We were there in the spring, so there was still some snow around, and not all of the trails were open.

The Hotel

Let me tell you this, If you are planning to visit Hotel Belvedere Grindelwald, ask for a double deluxe room with an Eiger view. Trust me, you will not regret it. The view is astonishing. When I opened the door and stepped out on the balcony to our room, I was blown away by what I saw. The room itself was also very cozy, and on the table there was a small bag of homemade popcorn from the management, which was a small touch that I really liked.

In the morning they served a beautiful breakfast with a lot of different delicious choices.

The second day we ordered breakfast in bed, which is definitely a luxury that I could get used to. A lot of different fruits, yoghurt, bread etc.

How to get there

Getting to Grindelwald is actually quite fun. You take a flight to Zurich, and from there a 3,5 hour train ride to Grindelwald. Yes, that is pretty long, but don´t worry, there is a lot of beautiful scenery to look at while riding the train. A  personal suggestion is to combine a trip to Grindelwald with a day or two in Zurich like we did, so you can get both the big city feeling and the small town charm with the alps.

What to do in Grindelwald

There is a lot to do in this little charming village. If you want to stay down in Grindelwald, you can rent bikes and ride around the town exploring, there you can play minigolf, and there is a ton of restaurants if you would like to try something swiss like for example a cheese fondue? My favorite part was taking the gondola all the way up to the mountainside overlooking the Eiger mountain which is 3,967 or 13,015 ft above the sea level.
